Benefit From a Fiberglass Truck Bed Cover

Fiberglass truck bed covers constitute the most recent movement in pick-up truck payload management. Such tops are light-weight, uncomplicated to install and operate, and easily customized. Most hard fiberglass truck tops come with factory installed locks to guarantee that particulars held in the truck's bed remain safe and sound. A host of fiberglass tops feature a handle by the tailgate for ease of use while still others open in a more unique manner. Fiberglass covers provide a great look - a great look that allows any truck a touch of style. When it comes to price, most fiberglass truck tops cost at least $500.

Fiberglass is a light-weight but very solid material. Entire vehicle bodies are oftentimes made exclusively of fiberglass. Hard fiberglass truck bed covers are light-weight enough to be put on the pick-up and easily operated. On the other hand, they're sufficiently durable to stand firm against the worst that Mother Nature and back road driving have to offer. Ease of installation translates into a wrench, a few screws, and an hour or so of someone's time. Most installations do not call for the drilling of big, ugly holes in the bed of your pickup.

Hard fiberglass lids are typically quite easy to maneuver. Because they are so lightweight, any sized person can lift the cover, secure the top in place, and easily access all four corners the pickup bed. Most fiberglass truck covers sport hinges at the bed of the pick-up and can be opened from the tailgate. A number of examples come with hinges that run down the middle of the bed - from the truck's cab to the tailgate end. These particular covers open from either side of the truck's cargo area, similar to wings.

Fiberglass truck bed covers can be customized for each truck, oftentimes employing color-matching to achieve an aesthetically pleasing end. Truck owners are known to apply emblems and designs to their vehicles as well. Also, many such covers come with a handle located directly over the center of the tailgate, supposedly adding a more professional and, possibly, functional look. And, still again, a few models include a winged feature on the back end that, supposedly, bestows an aerodynamic quality to the vehicle.

Yes - fiberglass truck bed covers can be a sound investment for people who take pride in their pickup truck's appearance. And, while imparting an individualized style to the truck, a rugged fiberglass top also delivers a high level of security.

2012 Ampera Opel Electric Concept Car

2012 Ampera Opel Electric Concept Car

The Opel Ampera electric car promises 500km (~300 miles) reach. For trips up to 60 km, the five-door, four-seat hatchback runs on electricity stored in the 16 kWh, lithium-ion battery, and emits zero CO2. When the battery’s energy is depleted, electricity from an on-board engine-generator extends the Ampera’s range to more than 500 km The Ampera looks cooler than the Chevy Volt, but then again the Volt looked also amazing as a concept and was then toned down quite a bit.
The five-door, four-seat Ampera uses a design language which incorporates several styling cues from the Flextreme and GTC Concept show cars.
The Ampera’s wheels are turned electrically at all times and speeds. The Ampera can be plugged into any household 230v outlet for charging. GM Europe is analyzing the requirements of a recharging infrastructure for plug-in electric cars with energy companies, including Iberdrola of Spain.
GM plans to put the Ampera into production in late 2011, offering it also with right-hand drive in the UK by Opel’s sister-brand, Vauxhall.
The revolutionary Opel Ampera will be the first emission-free, electrically driven automobile in Europe suitable for everyday driving.
"Driving electrically is not only about ecology," said global vehicle line executive and chief engineer, Frank Weber. "Driving electrically is also great fun. Instantaneous, silent torque of 370 Newton meters under your right foot feels like flying!"
The Ampera’s exterior design takes up cues from the Opel Flextreme and GTC Concept show cars. For example, it features dramatic, boomerang-like headlights that seamlessly integrate with the lower fog lights.
Opel Ampera ConceptThe car has a dynamic, almost aggressive low stance seen most prominently in the front and tail. The new, bold Opel logo emblazes the front grill and the chrome bar across the back.
Vertical slots in the outboard edges of the rear bumper not only give the car a low sporty look but also play a key role in creating a clean separation feature for the air, supporting the highly efficient aerodynamic performance.
GM engineers and designers worked together to optimize the air flow around the front fascia and outside mirrors of the Ampera. Significant attention was also given to the rear with a specifically designed spoiler and clean separation features.
2012 Ampera Opel Electric Concept Car

Lightweight materials were added in the form of clear polycarbonate covers to the front grille and disk inserts on the 17-inch, five-spoke sport alloy wheels. These helped to reduce aerodynamic drag in critical airflow areas.
The interior features a Jet Black interior combined with Spice Red accents and Dark Argent Metallic paint on the instrument panel’s center stack for a sporty look. The doors’ décor picks up on the car’s electric nature through the use of iconic themes.
With an integrated shifter, two information displays and touch-sensitive infotainment center, the Ampera delivers an all-electrical user experience. The storage capacity is 301 liters.
“On the Ampera we’ve continued to challenge the norm and have searched for new and exciting color and material combinations. To support the car’s innovative character we’ve worked with experimental trims and paints that you will see more of in future Opel models” said John Puskar, Director, Interior Design for GM Europe.
Opel estimates that an electrically driven kilometer in the Opel Ampera will cost about one-fifth compared to a conventional gasoline vehicle, at current fuel prices.

Ford to Debut C-Max

Company will show five-seat and seven-seat wagons in Geneva.

Ford will debut production versions of the new C-Max and Grand C-Max wagons at the Geneva auto show.

The wagons will be shown alongside the new Focus, which was unveiled at the Detroit auto show in January and gets a European debut in Geneva.

The five-seat C-Max and seven-seat Grand C-Max will go on sale in Europe later this year. Ford plans to sell the Grand C-Max in North America, starting in late 2011. It will be sold as the C-Max in the United States.

The C-Max has a coupe-like, sweeping roofline that falls off to the rear. The seven-seat model has a higher roofline to accommodate the additional row of seats. It also has twin sliding doors.

"The launch of the new C-Max range is highly significant, and shows customers worldwide that they can expect some truly exciting designs as we roll out our new global range of medium cars," said Ford of Europe CEO John Fleming in a statement.

Ford plans to sell the Grand C-Max in North America starting late 2011. It will be sold in the United States as the C-Max.

The C-Max wagons and the latest Focus are based on Ford's new global platform created to underpin 10 new and redesigned small cars.

Ford's European engineers developed the new Focus and, unlike the previous two generations they created for Europe, it will be sold in the United States. Both North American and European sales of the Focus start early next year.

How Can I Get Better Gas Mileage For My Truck?

Prices of fuel continue to rise. Many truck owners feel the pressure each time they fill in their tanks. The common questions that they ask is "How can I get better gas mileage for my truck?"

In this article, you will explore ways to get better gas mileage with trucks such as Dodge Hemi and Dodge Dakota.

Are your tires properly inflated? Do you know that under-inflated tires can decrease your driving speed but improve gas mileage? A study indicates that the average pressure of car tires is 80% of the recommended level. So, when your tires are under-inflated, you lose 0.5% of your mileage for every PSI. This maybe a small percentage but when it adds up, you will see the big difference. Usually for 32 PSI of pressure, a vehicle can go as far as 22 miles per gallon. In a year, you will drive about 12,000 miles. If your tires are low in pressure, you will pay for an extra of 20 gallons of gas a year. Always ensure that your tires are properly inflated.

Do you exceed the speed limit? Studies show that if you don't keep to the speed limit, it will cause bad gas mileage. They reveal that better gas mileage can be achieved if you drive less than 60 miles per hour. Usually your car will record its best speed for better gas mileage but the 60 miles per hour is a good indicator for your engine to consume less fuel. In figures, if you drive at more that 60 miles per hour, for every 5 miles per hour, you are paying about 20 cents more per gallon depending on the current price of the fuel.

You can install fuel economy devices or use oil addictive for your engines. However, the FTC warns many truck owners not to be conned with the outrageous claims that the retailers or the manufacturers make for their gas addictive or gasoline saving devices. You can check with friends to determine the fuel efficiency of these gadgets or addictive before you decide to buy any of them.

Going to the Internet to search for low prices of gasoline is another method where you can improve gas mileage. Some of the web sites offer calculator for you to calculate the savings that you can enjoy. With the online services, you can locate which gas station offers the lowest price. Most of the times, their information are up-to-date. You can save a lot of money if you travel a lot with your truck. Truly, these online tools can help thrifty drivers like you to buy the lowest possible price of gas.

How often do you maintain your vehicle? A properly maintained truck does make a lot of difference when it comes to fuel efficiency. If you get your truck tuned up correctly, you can get up to 4% improved gas mileage. A truck with serious problem can cost as high as 40% on fuel expenses. Always examine the air filters. They should be replaced on a regular basis. Dirty air filters increase the fuel consumption and the chances of engine damage. A clean air filter can increase the driving distance by up to 10%.

So now you have some of the answers to "How can I get better gas mileage for my truck". Make sure that your tires are properly inflated and always maintain your truck by changing the air filters, tuning the engine and changing the engine oil. Driving below 60 miles per hour can increase your driving distance.

Ford's Jim Farley

As much as these are trying times for Toyota Motor Company, they are especially good times for Ford Motor Company. Whereas one year ago the opposite might have been the case, the winds of change have blown. In fact, they've nearly flip-flopped two companies in transition.

In November, Motor Trend magazine awarded the 2010 Fusion their Car of the Year honor. During January's North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the company learned it won both the North American Car and Truck of The Year with the Fusion and Transit Connect. Then, most recently, Ford Motor Company posted a small profit.

While there are few links between the two companies that point to why one's on the up and one's having troubles, there is one interesting person who slipped out of Toyota and into Ford: Jim Farley.

Much credit for the turnaround that stopped the hemorrhaging of red ink and the lay offs of auto workers goes to Ford's new president and CEO, Alan Mulally. But we point to Jim Farley, fresh off a successful stint at Toyota, as being another key to the Blue Oval's good run.

Many industry insiders cite Farley as an important contributor to Toyota's successful expansion over the past decade. During his 17 years with Toyota, Farley held critical positions such as General Manager of Lexus (Mulally drove a Lexus when he hired in at Ford), National Advertising Manager, and Corporate Manager of Scion. At Ford, Farley acts as Group Vice President, Global Marketing. His responsibilities include overseeing all marketing and advertising for North and South America.

An honest look at the situation reveals that Farley didn't need to leave Toyota or his sunny home in Santa Monica, California. He chose to move to Michigan — a deeply depressed state that's meteorologically one of the cloudiest in the Union — to go to work for a troubled company in a struggling sector of the economy. Plenty of industry watchers wondered, "Is Jim Farley nuts?"

Not hardly.

Farley talked to AOL Autos recently to share his views on Ford, his departure from Toyota and where he sees the company's marketing headed.

Q: Are you happy you left Toyota?

A: "To be a part of the group that -- even for a short time -- is helping transform Ford into an exciting, vibrant entity, is for me a tremendous responsibility. I actually feel more emotionally connected than when I worked for Toyota. Certainly it was exciting working for Toyota and helping it become what it has, but this is different.

Now, my work is something I believe to be important. It's different than just making great cars even. Ford is a social institution. It's people. It's a historical institution for our country. It's not a job. It's something more than that. So, I can say I'm happy I left Toyota. Yeah."

Q: What contributes to your view of Ford?

A: "My grandfather was 380th employee of [Ford Motor Company]. Even though he never went past the fourth grade, his children and their kids all went to college because of Ford. My grandfather worked at The Rouge Plant, and when I walk in there now, I think of him. And mine is not a unique story. Not in this town. I have this historical connection to the company."

Q: Are you a "car guy?"

A: "Yeah, I'm actually a car freak, which is usually not a good thing in our industry. It can mean that you get infatuated with big engines and performance, and that you don't love minivans or crossovers. I think what makes me unique is that I'm a car guy who is also an advocate for customers. I can like what they like from their point of view. For instance, I love our Transit Connect. I see what customers love about that van the same way I see what enthusiasts love in a Mustang. So I guess I'm a different kind of car guy. Maybe a little more complex car guy.

"My love for cars extends to car photography. I have a big collection of black and white photographs from Jesse Alexander and Phil Hill. And I also collect stock certificates of bankrupt car companies like Hudson, Studebaker and St. Clair, and all sorts of wacky things like that.

"I do own a couple cars. I've gotten to a secure point in my life where my collection is pretty stable. One is an original Shelby Cobra, serial number CSX2521 that I've owned for about 15 years. It's just a 289 V-8, but it's so fun to drive, really well balanced. Another is my primer-gray '34 Ford five-window coupe that I bought from Ken Gross (journalist and director of the Peterson Auto Museum). I re-engineered it to accept a five-speed manual transmission and put a supercharger on the flathead. It's a very traditional fendered hot rod that I hope to give to my son one day. I don't think I'll ever sell these two."

Q: Do you see Ford doing more social media marketing as they did with The Fiesta Movement?

A: "The idea of giving someone a product and then letting them use social media for them to broadcast their experience is positive compared to the company doing it. This kind of thing isn't new. Back in the 1960s, GM's John DeLorean was giving away Pontiacs so people would talk about them. We've just put a new, more modern spin on it. I think that social media is a credible way to spread the story of what we're doing."

Looking Ahead

Speaking with Jim Farley helps one understand part of what's behind Ford's resurgence. While Farley's departure from Toyota isn't to blame for their troubles (and, not surprisingly, Ford isn't keen on commenting on their troubles right now), we know that that Toyota wishes they had Farley to help them through their issues today.

Ford is now building vehicles the market wants. And that's the point of being in the business.

How do i tell which car speakers have good Bass?

Question 1
How do i tell which car speakers have good Bass?...  ive heard that the lower the frequency (Hz) the better the Bass, just trying to make sure its true. im looking to buy some new speakers for my 1999 Ford Contour (yea i know its a sick car), i need two for my rear doors cause i just recently bought some for the front and a new radio. i dont really want Subs because im not black or a wigger.lol but its a possibilty. so any advice on which speakers i should get that would have fantastic bass and under $150

Answers
1)   sorry if you want good bass you will probably need subs but you don't need subs that are huge or outrageously loud. if you just want that bass kick one ten inch sub would do quite well. it wont be to expensive and you can get a decent deal if you buy the sub, amp, and wiring kit. subs from walmart are not great for extreme loud but for a good little kick they work great. the reason you need subs is to get a good bass sound you need to have a bigger surface area that can push more air than a little 6 inch speaker. - sanadian

2)   Infinity kappa speakers put out some great bass for components. I have the 6x9s in the back of my integra and you'd think i have subs. They have a great frequency response all around. Just make sure you power them with a good amp. - Daniel

3)   They sell 6" to 8" subwoofers that fit in the speaker places and they give the right amount of bass one is looking for and great midrange sounds too. Other speakers can give out bass but they weren't designed to be pumping out low Hz sounds. So your best option is to buy a pair of 6" subwoofers that were specially made to give low frequency sounds and the midrange your looking for that the bigger 10" and 12" subs don't give a lot of. - Jesus

4)   The contour takes 5x7 for the rear doors. Check out JL Audio. They've got a few different sets to choose from.

Check this website link. It shows the different ones they have. For around $150, I would recommend the C2-570X. Good set of speakers.

http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_components_pages.php?page_id=11

And the issue of you not wanting subs because you're not black, is absolutely absurd, stupid, rude, and plain outrageous. The "lol" doesn't make it right. I'm 30 years old, white, own my business which has made me fairly wealthy. I live in a 5,000 sq ft house in an upscale neighborhood on a golf course. I have subs in my car because it's what makes the system sound GREAT. It provides the bass that the interior speakers are not really designed to provide. Every car I've ever owned has had a sub setup. I love my music, and I love for it to sound phenomenal. Call me an audiophile if you will. There are millions of us, and we are not all black. The majority is probably white. SImply because one has subs to make music sound better and more fuller, does NOT make us black, or wiggers, idiot.

But to seriously answer your question... You may want to look at adding subs or maybe just one. You don't have to add a million subs with a million watts, which is what you may refer to as being black, or a wigger. You can add a simple sub setup like a single ten, 200 watts or even a 12" with 400 watts. It's not ground pounding loud, it just gives you the sound you're missing, and probably looking for.

Rear door speakers will NOT provide adequate bass. They may provide good mid range, but you'll still be wanting more. Just add some subs, and get over yourself. - Red Sox fan Chris

5)   Chris provided a great answer. The thumbs down is unjustified to say the least.

You may not be black or a "wigger", but if you think you have to be one of those types of people to have a sub in your car I can't begin to express how ignorant that is.

Proper implementation of a subwoofer is essential to a good sounding audio system.

The fact of the matters is you simply can't cover the low end of the audible frequency range without one.

If you are restricting yourself to speakers that will fit in your 6x8 openings I would suggest a GOOD quality set of 6.5" components in the front doors and a quality amplifier to power them.

Maybe something similar to this:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_7755_Focal+165+A1.html

The rear speakers can be left stock, running them with head unit power should be adequate. - N2Audio

Question 2
if a get a Sony - Xplod 12" Single-Voice-Coil 4-Ohm Subwoofer what type of amp should i get?...  im looking on ebay but im not sure what to look out for

Answers
1)   I only buy alpine, rockford fosgate, JL audio, any of the big name brands I personally go for the first two brands. secondly you want an amp that will be any where between 600 and 1000 watts. for a sub you will need a mono block class D amp. this will mean it has one positive and one negative terminal for the speaker wire. these amps work very well for subs and they stay a lot cooler than multiple channel amps. - sanadian

2)   First look at what the RMS (continuous output) watts are and not the Peak Power watts. The RMS is more precise and the sub will function better if matched with an amp with the same or just a little bit less watts of the sub you have. Lets say for example my sub's RMS is 400 watts so my amp should put out close to 400 to 300 watts RMS but no more than 400 watts or your sub can be easily blow if the amp is push to it's limits. But any amp should be fine as long as you stick to the RMS wattage and match them up like that. - Jesus

3)   If your only going to run 1 sub I'd go with a scoche

550 watt peak amp they're 263 tested rms

I had 2 of the 800 watt round Sony explodes

and 2 scoche 550's and in a small sealed box

and they rattled internal organs. Bullet proof also

one amp was ejected in a rollover accident and

still worked the other had soda spilled on it

blew both fuses so I put 2 new fuses and

it was like new . You just cannot killem. Only

bad side is you can't run 2 subs off one bridged channel

if you run them bridged you need 1 amp per sub

but since they're only 100$ a piece that's not a prob. - Dave g

4)   A mono amp is really only beneficial if you're running several hundred watts, and most of them run best when driving a low impedance load of which 4 ohms is not. A standard 2 channel amp that produces around 400w rms when bridged will work perfectly.

The RMS of that sub should be 300-380w rms so I would recommend something that's in that power range, preferably from a recognizable brand. A decent amp this size is going to be in the $80-100 range. Don't be fooled by the low end brands advertising ridiculously inflated max ratings for what seems like very little money. The actual power they are capable of is only a small fraction of what's advertised.

These would all be good options:

Shipping is high, but for $60-70 shipped it would be a good deal: http://cgi.ebay.com/Pioneer-2-channel-760w-watts-Bridgeable-Amplifier-st_W0QQitemZ120533575184QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCar_Amplifiers?hash=item1c105c6610#ht_1755wt_1165

This is probably a bit over-rated, but should provide a good amount of power for your Sony: http://cgi.ebay.com/CRUNCH-CAR-AUDIO-1000WATT-2-CH-STEREO-AMP-GPV-AMPLIFIER_W0QQitemZ180455913658QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCar_Amplifiers?hash=item2a0402b8ba#ht_3574wt_1165 - N2Audio

Question 3
What is a ported subwoofer box?...  I have no clue what it is.I know when a subwoofer sits in the box,is this when it is facing in the box? Please, and thank you.And play that bass!!!!

Answers
1)   A ported box is a box with a hole in it (the port). It'll give you a better low end response from your sub. Sealed boxes dont hit quite as hard but the bass is a little tighter and cleaner. I'd recommend a ported box. - Daniel

2)   ported boxes are louder and have more "boom", they have a port or a vent which is tuned to a certain frequency, they lack sound quality compared to a sealed box, but i personally prefer ported boxes due to the fact they are louder - Marc24

3)   A ported box simply means a box with a port

or opening for the air to escape after

a bass note hits so as to allow maximum speaker

excursion or throw. Ported boxes hit harder

and a sealed box ( a box with no air vents and is totally closed ) drops lower. But a properly

tuned ported box can drop as low as a sealed box - Dave g

Question 4
What are some good door speakers for my 2002 Neon SXT?...  Can someone make some recommendations please? I listen to mostly Rock/Metal music. Thank you for your advice!

B

Answers
1)   Pioneer or Infinity - jason

2)   I believe those are 6.5's There are plenty of companies that make great midrange speakers. You could go with a set of components. They usually come with a crossover, and the tweeter is separate from the 6.5" woofer so you have more imaging options. Most of the major brands have speakers this size. check the specs, look at the reviews, and make a choice that best suits you. - zimzam

3)   Yea I have a 2003 Neon with a set of infinity kappa perfect components... Sound amazing! - d_monie3

Rent A Truck And Do It Yourself

Even with a limited number of things to move, your car can be too small and it will take many trips to get all things to another place. The pickup trucks of manufacturing companies such as Volvo, Renault, Mercedes Benz, DAF, Nissan and Iveco, are easy to rent and available in the market. The pickup truck is a sturdy vehicle with bed-space to carry goods, and walls of strong metal sheets on its two sides. Most pickups are designed for comfort for everyday driving but it's also tough enough to keep up with the "big boys" in towing and payload demands.

Not everyone are allowed to drive a truck. You got to have the right license to drive the bigger trucks. Of course hauling liquid is tricky in any case and drivers would need to be specially trained. Training could be crash course made possible for all truck drivers and therefore already in place, always ready to rock-this is possible. First time drivers can be especially tough on a truck as they learn how to manage their vehicles. Requirements include having a CDL Class A drivers license for 3 months, verifiable first seat experience in the last year, or 12 months experience in the last 3 years.

Make enquiries about truck rental companies and you will learn that finding a good rental company may be difficult, as there are so many these days. Rental services offer rental moving trucks that will help make your relocation as stress-free and efficient as possible.

If you need a truck rental service, it is important to check out their fleet of rental moving trucks. It does not matter whether you are relocating across the town or across the country. You can always find a truck rental company that will provide you with the service you need. A few of the most common companies include one-way truck rental services and leasing rental trucks.

Rental trucking companies are very proactive in their safety innovations as well, especially due to the insurance costs. With the high costs of these trucks, operators and owners of these trucks need to protect their investment through insurance, which are now available from a number of insurance companies. Therefore it can save you some money to ask a friend with license and experience to do the driving for you.

Moving is not as simple as walking out of an old home and into another; it entails lots and lots of planning and deciding. The moving companies have trucks that have extremely high horsepower engines and a large container-kind of chamber in the rear to hold a household of furniture and valuables. These companies are great if you want to hand it all over. Renting a truck and do the work yourself saves money and cost energy and work.

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren specs
Top Speed: 207 mph / 334 km/h
0-60 mph: 3.6 seconds
0-100 mph: 7.6 seconds
0 - 1/4 Mile: 11.6 sec.
Engine: V8 5.5 liter 626 bhp @ 6500 rpm
A blast from the past and a taste of the future, this might just be a good description of the latest sports car that came out from a collaboration of Mercedes-Benz and McLaren, two big giants in the car manufacturing industry. We're talking about the 2004 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. This sports car combines the old yet astounding SLR race cars of the 50s and the latest and meanest technology of high-performance supercars. With the power of race cars and the sleek, curves and designs of a luxury car, the combination from the two car manufacturers is hard to beat.

This supercar is definitely fast. SLR McLaren sports a 626-horsepower supercharged 5.5-liter V8. Also, it has a full carbon-fiber monocoque, features crash structures and body panels. And with the supercharge V8 engine, you can see the 2004 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren go from naught to 60 miles per hour in less than 3.6 seconds. Top speed has been measured to exceed 200 mph, a feat that can only be achieved by very few even among the high performance sports cars. It was the high-performance division of Mercedes-Benz which created the V8s. The AMG were the ones who hand-build the supercharged V8 engines with top notched precision and quality. It is not at a big surprise to see the supercharged 5.5 (5439 cc) liter dry sumped 90 degree V8 engine to produce around 466.8 kW at 6500 rpm (626 hp) and 780 N·m (575 ft·lbf) torque at 3250 - 5000 rpm. The numbers maybe daunting but the sound of the engine will appease the minds of those who long for the perfect high performance cars.

Mounting that V8 engine into the body of SLR exotic car is also not as traditional as one would like to expect. The engine in SLR sports car is placed in a front mid-engine position just behind the front wheels. Instead of using the traditional oil-pan, dry-sump lubricants are used. With this innovation, it is highly possible to mount the engine to a level that used to be unachievable. Because of the low position of the engine in the supercar's body, the results are more than one hoped. The new Mercedez-Benz SLR McLaren race car has better aerodynamics and better handling due to the lower center of gravity.

Not only does the mean features of the sports car that attracts attention but how the two car companies were able to fuse their own traditions and expertise into a single exotic car. For one, McLaren's expertise in Formula 1 has been imbibed wholly by the SLR's design. The composition of carbon fiber material that was used in the body of the new SLR sports car is so Formula 1. Because of this body, the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren has become more rigid and surprisingly strong.

But not to be outdone, counterpart Mercedes-Benz has also put a few tricks of its own. The German car maker added features that are deemed essential to the most important part of the vehicle: the passengers. Due to backgrounds in mostly luxury cars, Mercedes-Benz has ensured maximum occupant protection and safety. To my knowledge, the SLR is the only car so far that utilizes front crash structure made entirely of carbon fiber. The importance of this carbon fiber design can only be appreciated in actual crash test simulations. What the front carbon fiber crash structure does is it absorbs crash energy, four - five times more energy than ordinary steel structures actually, during a severe frontal collision. This protects the passengers during such accidents four times more than traditional steel structures found in other sports cars and supercars.

The SLR also has a five speed automatic transmission. There are modes, the Sport, Comfort and Manual which basically covers every known driving style. Sport is for everyday use, Comfort for bumpy or slippery roads, and Manual gives you control over the gears either through the touchpad or the levers on the steering wheel. When you use Manual, you open up three more modes, namely Sport, Supersport and Race. Speed increased significantly as you go up shifts.

Other notable features in this sports car include the high-performance technologies of ceramic brakes. The SLR uses ceramic reinforced with fiber on its brake pads. This technology allows this exotic car to have astonishing stopping power, and extraordinary high resistance to heat, exceptionally strong structure and long service life for the brakes.

With all these features it is not surprising that the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is classified as a sports car and a supercar. Remember to get this right, though, the "SLR" does not stand for "Sportlich, Leicht, Rennsport" which is German for "Sport; Light; Racing" as most people think. Its real meaning is "super-leicht, Rennsport" which means "super-light, racing." The sports car is being sold with a base price of €443,066 £300,000 or $450,000.
