Best-Selling Trucks: August 2009


Of all the segments finding themselves in a slump, trucks are perhaps hit more than others. Especially during the month of August, the big guys took a hit because of government-sponsored incentives for small, fuel-efficient vehicles. The large vehicles, typically rich with profit for automakers, are now available at bargain prices.

The list reveals some old favorites, like the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado and Dodge Ram.

10. GMC Canyon MSRP: $16,985 - $29,835
Aug '09 Sales: 1,733 (Up 34.9%)

The GMC Canyon offers a variety of cab styles, suspensions and powertrains that make it both versatile and practical. Available in two- or four-wheel drive, the Canyon offers three body styles: regular cab, extended cab and crew cab. Two engines are available: a 185-hp 2.9-liter 4-cylinder and a 242-hp 3.7-liter inline 5-cylinder engine.



9. Nissan Frontier MSRP: $17,540 - $29,820
Aug '09 Sales: 3,875 (Down 57.6%)

The mid-size Nissan Frontier pickup combines versatility with practicality, and is suitable for both work and the trail. It is available in either a rear-wheel (4x2) or four-wheel drive configuration, with two body styles: extended (King) Cab and Crew Cab. The Nissan Frontier carries over with minimal changes for 2010.

Aug '09 Sales: 4,653 (Up 12.3%)

The Chevrolet Colorado offers a variety of cab styles, suspensions and powertrains that make it both versatile and practical. Available in two- or four-wheel drive, the Colorado offers three body styles: regular cab, extended cab and crew cab.



7. Ford Ranger MSRP: $17,440 - $25,570
Aug '09 Sales: 7,746 (Up 57.4%)

The Ford Ranger has been America's best-selling compact pickup for many years. As a work truck, the Ford Ranger offers serious truck capability at affordable prices. For 2010, the Ford Ranger is mainly a carryover from 2009.



6. Toyota Tundra MSRP: $23,155 - $42,155
Aug '09 Sales: 7,872 (Down 54.8%)

The Toyota Tundra is a full-size, half-ton pickup that raises the competitive bar in its class. It's built to Toyota's high standards of quality, durability and reliability. The Tundra is available in three different cab styles: the 2-door Regular Cab, and the 4-door Double Cab and CrewMax.



5. GMC Sierra MSRP: $20,850 - $46,435
Aug '09 Sales: 11,596 (Down 42.9%)

The GMC Sierra 1500 offers fuel economy, capability and performance in a broad lineup that includes everything from job-ready Work Truck to the well-appointed Denali. It is available in a wide array of bed sizes, wheelbases, drive types and cab sizes, and trim levels.



4. Toyota Tacoma MSRP: $15,170 - $27,075
Aug '09 Sales: 12,547 (Up 1.1%)

The Toyota Tacoma is a compact pick up that offers a comfortable cab, a refined ride, responsive handling, proven off-road capability, and quality construction. It is available in Regular Cab, Access Cab (extended cab) and Double Cab (crew cab) body styles, in either two or four wheel drive.

Aug '09 Sales: 17,514 (Down 29.9%)

The Dodge Ram 1500 offers bold all-new styling with an aggressive grille-forward design, new interiors with premium materials and innovative features, and big power from a choice of engines, making it ideal for work and play. It's available in three cab styles (regular, Quad and Crew cabs), three wheelbases and either 4x2 or 4x4 drive types.

Aug '09 Sales: 32,256 (Down 42.2%)

The Chevy Silverado works hard to live up to its reputation as the 'strongest, most dependable and longest lasting truck on the road'. The 1500 is the 'half-ton', model in Chevrolet's full-size pickup line-up. There are five engine sizes to choose from: 4.3-liter V6, 4.8-liter V8, 5.3-liter V8, 6.0-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8; and two transmissions.
